Lower Manhattan Cultural Council is pleased to present a series of three theme-based self-guided audio walking tours exploring the meaning, reception, and context of public art in Lower Manhattan.
At a time when Lower Manhattan is experiencing one of the largest public and private construction undertakings in the nation’s history LMCC and The Downtown Alliance respond with Re:Construction, a project that channels the energy of Downtown’s rebuilding process by recasting construction sites as “canvases” for innovative public art and architecture.
For nearly eight years, we've worked with commercial
real estate partners in Lower Manhattan to connect artists with free
space.
Workspace,
our flagship residency program, provides artists and writers working in diverse
medium and genres with a studio workspace for nine months, as well as access
to a community of artists, professional development services, and a modest
stipend. The residency culminates in an Open Studio Weekend where studios are
open to the public.
Swing Space is
a space grant program that connects artists and arts organizations with vacant
commercial space downtown. Studio, rehearsal, office, installation, and exhibition
space awards are typically for two to four months and are accompanied by a
project stipend of $300-$3,000.
