IMAGINED WORLDS: Mar. 9 - Apr. 6, 2007
Huong Ngo, 2007 Featuring Martha Colburn, Aissa Deebi, Gautam Kansara, Charles LaBelle, Huong Ngo, and smudge studio, the six artists in this exhibition reflect the increasing breakdown of geographic borders in today’s world. In some cases, the work represents the artist’s interpretation of a foreign culture or attempts to express the common disjuncture that occurs when two cultures collide. In other works, the art represents an entirely fabricated environment or presents a new way of looking at a familiar place. Curated by Jeanne Gerrity Banner image: Detail: Jamie Kruse, installation shot of smudge studio’s Manhattan Stonehenge: The Grid Becomes Else (2006), photographs by Frederick Otilius (left) and Thad Knouse (right)
