The Council can help.

For over 10 years, LMCC has worked with commercial real estate partners in Lower Manhattan to connect artists with free temporary space. Space is granted through open calls for applications.

Workspace

For visual artists & writers — 9 months

Our flagship residency program provides artists and writers working in diverse mediums and genres with free studio workspace for nine months, a modest one-time stipend, as well as access to a community of peers, professional development services, and exposure to new audiences through online and public programs.

Swing Space

For visual artists, performing artists, & arts groups — 1 to 4 months

Swing Space is a project-based space-granting program that matches artists and arts organizations with temporarily vacant commercial space downtown. Development, presentation and office space for visual and performing artists and arts groups are typically awarded for one to four months and are accompanied by a project stipend ranging from $300 to $3,000.

Paris Residency

For visual artists — 6 months

Starting in 2002, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC) and the City of Paris, in collaboration with the Cultural Services Department at the French Embassy in New York, have partnered to provide one New York City artist per year with the opportunity to live and work at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, France.
