Austin Thomas is a graduate of New York University with a Masters
in Studio Art, and holds a BA in psychology from the University of
Colorado. She is a recipient of the Smack Mellon Artist Studio Program
and a Public Art Fund Commission. She has exhibited extensively
in the United States. Her work has been featured at the Drawing
Center, Murray Guy, the Sculpture Center, White Columns, Debs&Co.,
Sara Meltzer Gallery, Art In General (all in New York) the Dianepruess
Gallery in Los Angeles, and the 48th Corcoran Biennial in Washington,
DC. She has a forthcoming show later this year at Black
and White Gallery in Brooklyn, NY.
Austin Thomas makes collage-based drawings, where she constructs drawings
by adding down precisely cut layers from found papers. Her Build
Drawings possess mandala-like intricacy and meticulous detail,
but are also architectural in form and sculptural in shape. The
artist lives and works in New York.
