BIOGRAPHY

Austin Thomas is a graduate of New York University with a Masters in Studio Art, and holds a BA in psychology from the University of Colorado. She is a recipient of the Smack Mellon Artist Studio Program and a Public Art Fund Commission.   She has exhibited extensively in the United States.  Her work has been featured at the Drawing Center, Murray Guy, the Sculpture Center, White Columns, Debs&Co., Sara Meltzer Gallery, Art In General (all in New York) the Dianepruess Gallery in Los Angeles, and the 48th Corcoran Biennial in Washington, DC.   She has a forthcoming show later this year at Black and White Gallery in Brooklyn, NY.

Austin Thomas makes collage-based drawings, where she constructs drawings by adding down precisely cut layers from found papers.  Her Build Drawings  possess mandala-like intricacy and meticulous detail, but are also architectural in form and sculptural in shape.  The artist lives and works in New York.
