Monika Goetz studied Graphic Design at the FH Wurzburg
and Fine Arts at the Art Academy of Kassel, Germany. She has received grants
from the City of Kassel, and the Cultural Council of Germany. A
grant from the DAAD brought Goetz to the United States, where she has
participated in the Artists in the Marketplace Program at the Bronx
Museum of Arts, and received grants from the John D. and Catherine
T. MacArthur Foundation, the Greenwall Foundation, Cowles Charitable
Foundation and the American Center Foundation. Her work has been
exhibited at the Sculpture Center, P.S.1/MoMA and the Queen Museum
of Art.
Goetz’s work explores consciousness and the boundaries of human
perception. Whether by creating new environments or intervening
with already existing spaces, her work questions and challenges the perceptions
of the viewer, of one’s sense of space and the act of seeing
itself.
