“A row of houses in the town of Longyearbyen, Svalbard, the furthese
north down in the world, taken just as the town was awakening from four months
of complete darkness (polar night). Often referred to as the “blue period” when,
during the middle of the day, the sky turns an amazing color of blue.”

In 2000, Cooley graduated from the MFA photography program at
the School of Visual Arts. He has had solo shows at White Columns
and Momenta, both in New York City and Ambrosino Gallery in Miami
as well as participated in numerous group shows. He received the
Rema Hort Mann Grant in 2003, an Aaron Siskind Fellowship Grant,
the Paula Rhodes Memorial Award, as well as the David Ruttenburg
Purchase Award. He also completed a six-month residency at the
Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris.
