The Nudes
“This is a series of video projections that re-stage paintings of female
nudes. The project explores the contested site of the female nude by literally
embodying the territory that was formerly the location of male artistic desire
and production.”
Mary Ellen Strom, Cake (Collecting Action and Knowledge about the
Every Day), 2005-2006
“This is a site-specific installation that explores the source to use
trajectory of the apparel industry, present apparel industry, presenting the
labor issues, the environmental and cultural impact on communities, and the
ethical complexities that face contemporary consumers. The overall installation
design for Cake exploits the material and psychological strategies of retail
marketing that construct consumer desire to bring the laborers in direct relationship
to the consumer/spectator.”
Geyser Land
“This is a site-specific installation present in Montana during August
2003. The conceptual strategy used the train to establish the spectator’s
point of view, to locate the spectator in a tourist position and to point to
the railroad as a tool of colonialism. The project looked at how capitalism
drove the early industrial period and influenced the form and discourse of
early mechanical representational systems such as photography and film.”
