CAke
(Collecting Action and Knowledge about the Every Day)
is a site-specific installation being developed by choreographer Ann
Carlson and video maker Mary Ellen Strom. CAke explores the source
to use trajectory of everyday products, revealing the labor, environmental
impact and economic complexities facing contemporary consumers. This
first work in progress showing of CAke takes place in an empty
retail store in lower Manhattan. The work features life size video portraits
of laborers who work in New York City's garment industry.
