What is it?

Swing Space is a space grant program that connects artists and arts organizations with vacant commercial space downtown. Studio, rehearsal, office, installation, and exhibition space awards are typically for one to six months and may be accompanied by a project stipend of $300-$3,000, when funds are available.

Please note: As of May 2009, LMCC is not currently able to offer stipends for Swing Space projects.

Swing Space applications are reviewed and ranked by a rotating independent panel of artists and arts professionals.

Who can apply?

Individual artists working in the visual arts, performing arts, or new media; independent curators; dance and theater companies; arts organizations. Click here to see our current artists.

Where is Swing Space?

Swing Space offers short-term occupancies of temporarily vacant spaces throughout downtown. We are constantly moving and acquiring new sites. In the past Swing Spaces have included empty office floors, closed retail stores, an abandoned printing factory, and a former bank. Click here to see current Swing Spaces.

When can I get it?

Please visit the Apply for Swing Space page for complete information about how to apply.  The next application deadline is July 15, 2009.
