About the artist:
Brooke Moyse references traditional mark-making and ancient symbolism as a means to represent energy through a sacred space. Loosely painted but specifically architectural, her paintings define an active space that - despite conflict - identify, harmonize, and balance. Brooke Moyse lives and works in New York. She received an MFA from NYU and a BA from Bard College. She had a solo exhibition at Norte Maar, Brooklyn, in 2009. Her work has been included in group exhibitions at Tiger Strikes Asteroid in Philadelphia, and at Storefront, Norte Maar, Momenta, NYCAMS, Factory Fresh, and Silvershed, in New York.

About the work:
Gray Diamonds is part of a series of paintings from 2011 that use geometric shapes to create collage-like spaces. The ultimate goal of these works is to create a painted space that transfers energy beyond the borders of the canvas. This painting presents a conflicted space that subtly shifts between a fluid and dynamic movement and the static surface. As such, Gray Diamonds is concerned with the act of looking, and with the small moments that reveal themselves through that process.
