Anna Sperber

2010-2011 Swing Space Resident, Building 110: LMCC’s Arts Center At Governors Island

Anna Sperber is a native of Brooklyn, New York, where she is currently based. Her work has been presented in venues throughout NYC including Dance Theater Workshop, The Baryshnikov Arts Center Danspace Project at St. Mark’s Church, Movement Research at Judson Church, The Brooklyn Museum of Art, Dixon Place, Chez Bushwick (at Shtudio Show and The Ronald Feldman Gallery), The Chocolate Factory, Catch! Series at P.S.122, CPR, and the Duo Multi Cultural Arts Center. She was a 2006-08 Movement Research Artist-In- Residence, and a 2008 Sugar Salon Artist, a program developed and administered by the Williamsburg Art neXus (WAX) in partnership with the Department of Dance of Barnard College and supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs. Her most recent project NAOMI, received support from a 2010 Brooklyn Arts Council Re-grant. In addition to her own work, she has performed in the works of many New York based choreographers, most notably Juliette Mapp with whom Anna has danced with for the past six years. Anna holds a BFA from SUNY Purchase, was a founding organizer of classclassclass, and currently runs BRAZIL, a studio and intimate performance space in Bushwick, Brooklyn.

During her residency on Governors Island, Sperber will be working with dancers Julie Alexander, Natalie Green, Jennifer Lafferty, and Rebecca Serrelll Cyr, on a new piece that will premiere at the Kitchen in October 2011.
