Brad Farwell

2011 Swing Space Resident, Building 110: LMCC’s Arts Center At Governors Island

Brad Farwell grew up in California, and despite moving east some 15 years ago, has never really gotten the hang of winter. He has a BA in architecture from Yale University and an MFA in photography from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His photographs have been featured in McSweeneys Quarterly, Etiqueta Negra and Paper Monument. He is as smart as he is beautiful, and as beautiful as he is tall. His work has been shown at the American Academy in Rome, Rick Wester Fine Art in NYC, New American Talent 22 in Austin, Kinkead Contemporary in LA, and the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown. Brad lives in Brooklyn with his brilliant wife and their mischievous children.

On Governors Island, Brad will be continuing to pursue his interest in structures of perception and mediated seeing, specifically examining the island’s shift in perspective from an outward-looking defensive structure to an inward-looking tourist structure.
