Erin Diebboll

2011 Swing Space Resident, Building 110: LMCC’s Arts Center At Governors Island

Erin Diebboll grew up in rural Massachusetts, an only child with an extended family of artists. She received her BFA from Cooper Union and currently lives in Brooklyn, NY. Erin has been granted residencies at the Vermont Studio Center and the Lower East Side Printshop. She exhibits her drawings, prints and films here and there throughout the U.S. and internationally.

Most recently Erin has been working on a series of large-scale drawings and prints in which she maps familiar spaces from memory. Memory is a record of looking, single glances that accumulate, overlap and merge. As in a child’s drawing, separate perspectives may coexist, scale and the level of detail are subjective. Through this approach, Erin studies what may be a more truthful way of seeing.

During her residency on Governors Island, Erin will reconstruct a past home by piecing together every single photo taken during the time spent living there.
