Bessie Award winning dancer/choreographer Kimberly Bartosik began her choreographic endeavors in 2000, after a rich, nine year career of dancing with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company. Her viscerally provocative choreographic and multi-media projects are built upon the development of a virtuosic movement language, rigorous conceptual explorations, and the creation of highly theatricalized environments. Her work has been presented at Danspace Project, Dance Theater Workshop, The Kitchen, La Mama, Mt. Tremper Arts, Barnard College, and Movement Research at the Judson Church. She has received support from Foundation for Contemporary Arts, FUSED, Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation, MAP Fund, Jerome Foundation and NYFA (BUILD). In 2005 she founded daela, an organization to facilitate the development of her artistic work.
In fall 2011 Bartosik will premiere two works during Crossing the Line, an annual festival of contemporary performance produced by the French Alliance/Alliance Francaise: i like penises: a little something in 24 acts (Danspace Project, September 22–24) and Ecsteriority3 (French Embassy, NYC, September 17).
While on Governors Island, Kimberly Bartosik/daela will be in the final creative development phase of its new work: i like penises, a little something in 24 acts, an evening length project for three dancers and one visual artist, which will premiere at Danspace Project, NYC during Crossing the Line Festival, presented by FIAF.
