Sandra Rodriguez

Sandra A. Rodriguez Riera recently obtained her MFA at Brooklyn College in 2007.  She has been living in New York City for five years. In 2000 she graduated from Superior Institute of Art, ISA, Havana City, Cuba, with a Bachelor Degree in Fine Arts, specializing in Painting.  She has participated as artist-in-residence at Art Omi Residency, New York. She has twice been a part of the Artistic Residency at Banff Centre for the Arts in Alberta, Canada. She received the UNESCO Award for the Best Poster Design in France and her work has been part of different publications like Art Cuba (The New Generation) by Holly Block, and Los Herejes en el Convento by Jorge Camacho, among others. Over the course of the last two years, her work has focused on how immigrants without legal documents are treated as criminals, and how they are dehumanized and depersonalized.
