Liz Magic Laser
Workspace 2009-2010
Liz Magic Laser was born, lives, and works in New York City. She recently completed residencies at the Whitney Museum Independent Study Program and the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. She earned an MFA from Columbia University and a BA from Wesleyan University. Her work has been shown at galleries in New York including Derek Eller Gallery, Southfirst, Sue Scott Gallery, Smack Mellon, and The Art Production Fund. Laser has also exhibited internationally at N T art gallery, Bologna; Karlin Hall for the Prague Biennale 4, Prague; the Center for Contemporary Art, Tel Aviv; and the Georgian National Museum for Artisterium 2009, Tbilisi.

Flight, 2010
Performance developed in collaboration with actors Lindsey Andersen, Nic Grelli, Elizabeth Hodur, Michael Wiener, Max Woertendyke and Lia Woertendyke. Flight activates the grand staircase leading to P.S.1’s entrance with actions culled from movies like Battleship Potemkin, M, Niagra, The Shining, and 28 Days Later. Performed on April 10th, 2010, as part of the Saturday Sessions program.

Distressed, 2009
Performance developed in collaboration with dancers Yasemin Adali, David Botana, Gary Lai, Emily Quant and Aya Shibahara. The performance debuted on October 10th, 2009, on the Southwest corner of Union Square (NYC) as part of the Art in Odd Places: Sign festival.

A production of Bertolt Brecht’s Man equals Man, directed by Liz Magic Laser. Installation including a feature-length video, performance, photographs, archival objects and a playbill publications. Developed in collaboration with actors Annika Boras, Andra Eggleston, Gary Lai, Liz Micek, Justin Sayre, Doug Walter, Michael Wiener, Max Woertendyke and Cat Yezbak. Set and costume styling was done in collaboration with Felicia Garcia-Rivera and the playbill pamphlets are designed by Lauren Adolfsen.
