Play on the Streets with Make Music New York
For one day a year -- the first day of summer -- public spaces in all five boroughs will be turned into informal musical stages for all New Yorkers, amateurs and professionals, to perform for friends, neighbors, and passers-by, turning the city into a festival of live music making.
For more information, read on, and go to the Make Music New York website.
DEADLINE TO SIGN UP: MAY 1, 2007
May 1st Deadline for Street Closures
If you want to close a street for your Make Music New York event, there's still time... but not much!
Normally, street closure permits must be filed with the City 60 days in advance. We've gotten a short extension for Make Music New York, and the permits will be accepted up until May 1st.
All of the information you need is available here on our website. A few reminders:
* Street closure applications need to be submitted by you, not by us.
* The applications must be submitted by groups -- such as churches, block associations, civic groups, schools, art centers, or Business Improvement Districts -- not individuals.
According to the City's rules, the applicant must be a "community-based, not-for-profit organization, association, or the like, which has an indigenous relationship to the specific street or community or both, for which the event is proposed and which demonstrates that it has the support of the community and is willing to take full responsibility for the conduct of the event."
* Your local community board must sign-off on the permit before it goes to the Street Activity Permit Office. Each community board has a different procedure -- call them, and they will help you file these permits correctly.
* Once you've filed your application, email us at makemusicny@gmail.com and let us know about your event!
