Maureen Towey- Three Sisters (Work in Progress)
- Location
- Good Companions Senior Center, 334 Madison Street, New York, NY 10003
- Dates & Times
- Friday, June 22, 2012, 1:30–3:30PM
Maureen Towey directs a staged reading of Chekov’s Three Sisters cast with actors who are all over sixty-five. Through casting older actors, the play’s themes of loss and longing will be shown through a new lens. The professional cast is joined onstage by a non-professional chorus from the Good Companions Senior Center. Towey has been an artist-in-residence at Good Companions through the Department of Cultural Affairs’ SPARC program, administered in Manhattan by Lower Manhattan Cultural Council. She has been working with the chorus, first on their own stories of displacement, and then with the script of Three Sisters. This work-in-progress showing is a preview of the full production to be presented at River to River in 2013.
