The Reincarnation of Rockland Palace” is a community arts project and performance taking place at the grounds of a famous event hall at the corner of 155th street and Frederick Douglass Avenues in Harlem. The Rockland Palace, where political rallies, sport events, concerts, and elaborate dragballs were held during the Harlem Renaissance, was torn down in the 1960’s and is now a parking lot. On Sunday July 1st, 2012, from 6-11pm, visual artist and filmmaker Sara Jordenö and House|Ballroom runway performer and community health specialist Twiggy Pucci Garçon are re-occupying this historic and epic site for a multifaceted Kiki ball event, offering an imaginative display of creativity and a reconnection with LGBTQ history.
