Open Studios

Please join us at Building 110 for the Open Studios and the closing weekend of the public access season at Governors Island. LMCC's visual art studios at Governors Island currently host 19 artists-in-residence who have been working in diverse media including drawing, painting, installation, sculpture, performance, and new media. Come see what they have been developing in their studios since August!

Transforming Function

Featuring work by John Andrew, Leah Beeferman, Ingrid Burrington,
caraballo-farman, Blake Carrington, Kabir Carter, Timothy Hutchings, Simone Leigh, Anna Lundh, Esperanza Mayobre, Sarah Oppenheimer, Parallelograms, and Claudia Weber

Transforming Function features artists who—by excavating the fields of technology, science, architecture, and/or design—repurpose theoretical tools, virtual platforms, and formal techniques to inform their diverse conceptual and aesthetic investigations. Transforming Function continues with additional work by luciana achugar, Leah Beeferman, Blake Carrington, Timothy Hutchings, Simone Leigh, and Esperanza Mayobre at Conrad New York at 102 North End Avenue. The gallery is open Tuesday-Thursday, 12-6PM, Friday-Saturday, 12-8PM. For more information, click here.

SITE-SPECIFIC INSTALLATION

Transforming Function Artist Kabir Carter presents
a Site-Specific Installation

Fill is a sound project comprised of live waterborne sound events and newly added sounds. A mixture of these materials will be projected into a land based listening space.

People Get Ready presents a Work-in-Progress

People Get Ready is a band that creates immense sonic landscapes through the interaction of bodies and analog technology. They also generate choreography based on their songs, including selections from their new album. See what they have been working on for their upcoming performance at New York Live Arts, October 18–20. Reservation required to LMCC’s presentation. RSVP here.

About Building 110: LMCC’s Arts Center at Governors Island

Building 110: LMCC's Arts Center at Governors Island houses 20 visual artist studios, two rehearsal studios, and an exhibition space, all with sweeping views of the Lower Manhattan skyline and New York Harbor. Formerly an Army warehouse, historic Building 110 was transformed by LMCC in 2010 into a multi-use arts facility for the development and presentation of new work in the performing and visual arts. Artists-in-residence are offered a retreat-style experience just minutes from the City, and audiences gain unique access to New York City's newest cultural destination.

Getting There

The ferry to Governors Island departs regularly from the Battery Maritime Building in Manhattan and Pier 6 in Brooklyn.
