Open Studios
Please join us at Building 110 for the Open Studios and the closing weekend of the public access season at Governors Island. LMCC's visual art studios at Governors Island currently host 19 artists-in-residence who have been working in diverse media including drawing, painting, installation, sculpture, performance, and new media. Transforming FunctionFeaturing work by John Andrew, Leah Beeferman, Ingrid Burrington, Transforming Function features artists who—by excavating the fields of technology, science, architecture, and/or design—repurpose theoretical tools, virtual platforms, and formal techniques to inform their diverse conceptual and aesthetic investigations. Additional programming such as workshops, demonstrations, and talks to be announced. For more information, click here. People Get Ready presents a Work-in-ProgressPeople Get Ready is a band that creates immense sonic landscapes through the interaction of bodies and analog technology. They also generate choreography based on their songs, including selections from their new album. About Building 110: LMCC’s Arts Center at Governors IslandBuilding 110: LMCC's Arts Center at Governors Island houses 20 visual artist studios, two rehearsal studios, and an exhibition space, all with sweeping views of the Lower Manhattan skyline and New York Harbor. Formerly an Army warehouse, historic Building 110 was transformed by LMCC in 2010 into a multi-use arts facility for the development and presentation of new work in the performing and visual arts. Artists-in-residence are offered a retreat-style experience just minutes from the City, and audiences gain unique access to New York City's newest cultural destination.
