LMCC offers direct financial support to artists and to arts and community organizations to share the experience of the arts with audiences on stages, in exhibition halls, classrooms, recreation rooms, public spaces, and unexpected locations across Manhattan.
“[LMCC support] has enabled Underworld Productions Opera to do our part to keep the art form evolving: introducing text-messaging to Mozart; twisting Baroque pearls with performance art; and recreating the Thomas Hill hearings in music and aerial dance... With LMCC funding and the leverage it provides, UP has grown from church basement shows to the Thalia Theatre complete with an orchestra - and we got our first New York Times review.” - Gina Crusco, Artistic Director of Underworld Productions, LMCC Grant Recipient
Each year LMCC distributes approximately $500,000 to support hundreds of performing, literary, media and visual arts projects in partnership with the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) and the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA).
This June, LMCC grantee Eve Sicular and her band Isle of Klezbos will present its 15th annual KlezBiGay Pride show, Isle of Klezbos: Music for a Sustainable City at El Sol Brillante Garden in the East Village.
