2006–2007
- Amas Musical Theatre, Inc. and the Wadleigh Secondary School
- A 16-week artists-in-school program to assist public school students in researching their communities’ and families’ immigration histories. The program crosses the curriculum as writing and research are formulated into a dramatic public musical play.
- The Center for Urban Pedagogy and the Heritage School
- As part of the Regents-based Earth Science class, students will create art and design projects that explore the neighborhood ecology surrounding their school in East Harlem.
- Cristina Cortes and the East Village Community School
- “Searching for Mesing” will be a dance workshop and multi-disciplinary performance, which will be a part of a year-long social studies investigation of the Lenape culture by 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade classes at the East Village Community School.
- Hester Street Collaborative and P.S. 134
- An innovative, interdisciplinary design/architectural project that guides students and teachers through a sequential series of design exercises/workshops, and culminates in a campus improvement project.
- Jennifer Cecere and P.S. 42
- Through research, journal writing, performance, and art making, the artist will work with students to produce an original play with costumes and scenery.
- Kiboko Projects, Inc. and the Eleanor Roosevelt High School
- The grant will support the New York portion of a cultural exchange with students in a Western Kenyan school, through visual art, video, and story telling. Workshops include mask making, photo diaries, creative writing, painting and storytelling on video.
- The New York Center for Flamenco Performing Arts/Arts Flamenco and the Career Education Center
- The program will incorporate flamenco in the non-arts areas of English Language Arts, Social Studies, and Math, Science and Technology. Students will improvise, create and perform dances, and will express their understanding of these dances through discussions and writing assignments.
- Ning Yuan Yu and the Chinese School, M.C.C.S.
- The artist, through Chinese children’s folk songs and speech, painting and drawing, games and dance, will help children (aged 3-5) develop their language ability through art, promote children’s artistic communication, and help to shape a diverse culture for the community.
- To Make the World a Better Place and the New Design High School
- A collaboration to integrate art into the social studies curriculum for 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students.
- Working Playground and M.S. 131
- Students will explore their Social Studies Curriculum through the lens of New York City History and create original films that demonstrate their understanding of their culture’s importance in the fabric of New York’s history.
- Young Audiences, NY and P.S. 163M
- A 16-session Mexican folk dance residency with four 3rd grade classes integrating Mexican folk dance into the Social Studies and English Language Arts curricula. Students will explore the many influences that impact a culture, and will incorporate these ideas into their non-fiction writing units.
- Young Men’s and Young Women’s Hebrew Association / 92nd Y and P.S. 146
- The artist will create the “Storyteller’s Workshop,” which will provide ninety 4th grade students with theater improvisation, writing, and storytelling instruction.
