About the artist:
Matthew Jensen is a conceptual landscape artist based in New York City. Combining photography, collecting and rigorous explorations, each of his project-based works are a response to the overlooked history and beauty of familiar landscapes. His recent solo exhibition at Building 110: LMCC’s Arts Center on Governors Island, Searching for Something Previously Forgotten or Unknown on Governors Island, showcased numerous photography, collection-based and video works that charted his explorations throughout the island and its buildings. He has his MFA from the University of Connecticut and is a MacDowell Colony fellow. His landscape series The 49 States was recently acquired by the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

About the work:
The photograph on the way to (#3) is from Jensen’s series, feels like real. In this series he explores our interaction with landscape via public transportation and documents the continued migration from firsthand experience of landscape towards a passive and removed relationship. Each image in the series captures fleeting moments when landscapes are transformed by atmospheric light and the rapid motion of air, rail and bus travel.
