Lower Manhattan Revealed: “The Lenape: Lower Manhattan’s First Inhabitants”
LMCC presented "The Lenape: Lower Manhattan's First Inhabitants," the final lecture of the 2011 Access Restricted: Lower Manhattan Revealed season. Dr. David M. Oestreicher - curator (In Search of the Lenape: The Delaware Indians, Past and Present), lecturer, consultant, and independent scholar - discussed the culture, prehistory, and history of the Lenape (Delaware Indians) in this region as well as their subsequent displacement and emigration to enclaves in Oklahoma, Ontario, and Wisconsin in the 18th and 19th centuries. The lecture took place on Wednesday, April 13, 12 noon, in Pershing Hall, Governors Island.
