2009 MCAF Grantee Laura Nova: Crescendo
In September 2009, timed to coincide with a 4 kilometer race in Riverside Park, visual artist Laura Nova presented her public art work, "Crescendo." The project, an automated praise-singing machine, was triggered at the completion of a race. At the moment a runner crossed the finish line the machine would sing his or her name to the melody of Handel's Hallelujah. The goal of “Crescendo” was to provide an enhanced race experience highlighting spirituality and running under the guise of art. This project orchestrated the visual spectacle of a race in a musical form, praising the runner as he or she crossed the finish line.
