Access Restricted: Law & Representation, 2010 Season Announced
Even though Manhattan possesses one of the richest legal infrastructures in the country, the general public hardly ever interacts with these buildings and their use except for a few, very specified situations. In order to showcase this legal fabric, Access Restricted: Law & Representation hosts a series of talks by practicing lawyers and scholars in the palaces and parlors where law is practiced or discussed.
The series focuses on the many meanings of the word “representation” by exploring current issues in law, while also investigating the law in art, architecture, and the media. In the end, this multifaceted approach aims to foster its own “image” of the legal system and its concerns today.
The public will visit six historic locales, including courthouses, meeting rooms, and other spaces that constitute the infrastructure of our legal system. Each event in the series will tie a theme to the site, featuring a talk by a distinguished legal professional, or scholar to form an image of todayʼs legal environment and its affects on daily life and culture.
Check out the series schedule and follow us on Twitter to snag a spot as soon as the reservations open up!
