Art in Odd Places: SiGN 2009 - Opening Party Tonight!
OPENING PARTY TONIGHT: Thurs OCT 1 @ 6-9pm Theaterlab, 137 14th St Featuring AiOP artists on 14th St, musician Roland P. Young, and 3 floors of improvisational wonder!
Now in its fifth year, the annual Art in Odd Places festival brings 60+ artworks to 14th Street, all of which focus on the theme of signs. The mission of the festival is to "explore the odd, ordinary and ingenious in the spectacle of everyday life."
“It seemed that at this particular point in time, people are more attuned to signs and omens,” says Radhika Subramaniam, Director and Chief Curator for Sheila C. Johnson Design Center at Parsons The New School for Design, who, along with Lower Manhattan Cultural Council Artist Residencies Director Erin Donnelly, is guest-curating this year’s festival.
Officially on view today, October 1 thru 26, along 14th Street between Sixth & Seventh Avenues, the show will feature numerous past and current LMCC SwingSpace and Workspace artists including:
