August 2011 Grantee Events
Check out the upcoming events for August 2011 by artists and arts groups we support through The Fund for Creative Communities (The Fund) and Manhattan Community Arts Fund (MCAF).
Highlights for this month include:
Inwood Shakespeare Festival - War of the Worlds: Written and directed by Ted Minos. Based on H. G. Wells' science fiction classic, the play explores the themes of survival and humanity’s future. Will we survive the war from outer space? Will we survive the wars among ourselves? A Milky-Way Galaxy Premiere, under the stars! Free and open to the public.
Andrea Arroyo – Eternal: An exhibition including works on paper from her series Flor de Vida, and selections from the project-in-progress Flor de Tierra, Homage to the Women of Juarez, which commemorates the women of Juarez, the border city in Mexico where hundreds of women have gone missing or been killed in the past 15 years. The project celebrates femininity and life, while examining notions of race, gender, and justice.
This year, LMCC is supporting over 170 arts projects in Manhattan. For more information and a complete list of grantee events promoted this month, visit our events calendar.
The Fund for Creative Communities is made possible by the Decentralization program of New York State Council on the Arts. Manhattan Community Arts Fund is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council. Additional support is provided by Wells Fargo.
