LaToya Ruby Frazier, The Notion of Family

LaToya Ruby Frazier will be presenting The Notion of Family. In this ongoing collaborative body of work with her mother and grandmother, Frazier utilizes photography and video to produce work that intensely explores her family’s psychological lineage through the 1930s, 1960s and 1980s. Her work is autobiographical and blurs the line between self-portraiture and social documentary. The family is seen from every angle when her mother functions as artist and photographer, capturing Frazier as the subject. The Notion of Family defines the lines between private and public space, emotion, reality, memory and human complexity.
