Open Studio Weekend: 2010
Over 900 visitors came downtown for the 2010 Workspace Open Studio Weekend as we opened the studios of our 20 visual artists and 9 writers to the public for one weekend only. In addition to a Friday night opening reception and two days of open hours in the studios, we hosted Open Texts, a fantastic evening of readings and performances from our writers-in-residence. Changing what it means to work in the Financial District, Workspace serves artists and writers working in all media from painting to video, sculpture to photography, poetry to playwriting in unique spaces generously donated by the downtown real estate community. The weekend saw visitors from major museums, non-profit arts and literary organizations, publishers, and galleries among many others.

More than 1,000 visitors joined LMCC for the 2011 Workspace Open Studio Weekend! We were thrilled to present this group of 24 emerging visual artists- and writers-in-residence. In-residence from September 2010 - June 2011, the Workspace artists and writers worked in their studios, participated in weekly Salon Evenings, and developed a dialogue that will last well beyond the June end-date of their residency.
Situated in an unlikely neighborhood of New York City, the Financial District, in donated and adapted office space, artists and writers who participate in LMCC's residency programs are literally changing what it means to "work" on Wall Street. In partnership with the generous real estate community in Lower Manhattan since 1997, LMCC's residency programs have provided valuable space, time, and community to hundreds of artists. And with 24/7 access to this constantly changing part of the city, LMCC's artists-in-residence are uniquely positioned to experience, explore, interpret, and re-imagine it from the inside.
Representing all media and genres - performance, painting, photography, installation, sculpture, and video, poetry, playwriting, fiction, and creative non-fiction - Open Studio Weekend 2011 was a special opportunity to experience part of the creative process, that happens most often behind closed doors, of an exceptional group of artists and writers.
Throughout the weekend, guests experienced an opening reception, performances, open studio hours, and a reading by writers-in-residence. Visitors included curators and directors from major visual arts and literary institutions in New York City and beyond, as well as fellow artists, writers, and friends.
Thanks for joining us!
