World Views: Open Studio Exhibition

  • Program from World Views: Open Studio Exhibition at the New Museum

  • LMCC Studios at the World Trade Center

The World Views: Open Studio Exhibition at the New Museum, which ran from December 2001 through January 2002, was organized to replace the open studios weekend for the fifteen artists who were scheduled to complete their World Views residency at the LMCC’s location in the World Trade Center in November of 2001. Artists participating in the World Views residency shared raw space on the 92nd floor of Tower One, and at the end of their six-month residency cycle the studios were opened to the public so that thousands of visitors were able to experience their work. World Views: Open Studio Exhibition addressed the interruption of the Summer 2001 World Views residency by the tragic events of 9/11 and gave the artists involved an opportunity to recreate destroyed work, re-conceptualize work which had been in progress, and respond to their experiences in the aftermath. The exhibition was dedicated to artist Michael Richards, who was working in the building at the time of the attacks and lost his life on 9/11.

Participating Artists: Simon Aldridge, Naomi Ben-Shahar, Monika Bravo, Laurie Halsey Brown, Justine Cooper, Lucky DeBellevue, Carola Dertnig, Mahmoud Hamadani, Kara Hammond, Jeff Konisberg, Motonobu Kurokawa, Geraldine Lau, Nathan See, and Hyungub Shin
